About the Candidate

Our ideal candidate:

  • Holds the CPA designation

  • Has a bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Has 8+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting with progressing responsibility

  • Is passionate about developing people, coaching and mentoring

  • Has advanced excel skills and experience with ERP systems and their implementation

  • Experience in the manufacturing industry is an asset.

 

About the Role

The Accounting Manager is responsible to implement and maintain financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems.  They accurately complete full-cycle accounting functions including, A/P, A/R, collections, budgeting, analysis, payroll and prepare financial reports and statements.  They provide coaching, training and guidance to the A/P / A/R Clerk and engage regularly with the leadership and operational teams.

  • Hire, lead, train and develop accounting employees, encouraging cross-training, personal growth and skills development, and a drive for accuracy and efficiency.

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance by monitoring and maintaining proper procedures and controls for all accounting (GAAP), payroll and financial functions.

  • Monitor the effectiveness of all accounting purchasing and related systems, and recommend/implement improvements as needed.

  • Participate in the selection, implementation, and upgrade of systems (ERP, etc.).

  • Ensure that monthly financial statements are prepared and monitor performance against annual operating budgets, advising the leadership team of risks and financial issues.

  • Generate and deliver monthly management reports and other reports required to support managerial decision-making, including:

    • Department performance

    • Cash flow

    • Sales

    • Gross profit

  • Perform fiscal year-end accounting close outs and prepares files for external accountant, make year-end adjustments identified by accountant.

  • Coordinates the budgeting process with the leadership team.

  • Prepare all bank reconciliations, daily bank deposits and proactively monitors transactions and balances.

  • Complete accurate journal entries, maintain the general ledger and balance all accounts.

  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance.

  • Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.

  • Maintain all accounting records, ensuring accuracy and complaint document retention policies are in place.

  • Account for company assets, ensuring they are adequately safeguarded and insured.

  • Process EFT payments prepared by A/P.

  • Prepare payroll accurately and completes all appropriate deductions and remittances.

  • Prepare and distribute T4’s, records of employment and liaise with Service Canada.

  • Remit WCB payments and coordinate with WCB on payroll information, etc. as required.

  • Ensure proper inventory controls are in place and lead the annual inventory count process, monthly/periodic inventory reconciliations, etc.

  • Review company insurance, annually, ensuring appropriate and timely renewal.

  • Maintain accounting and payroll knowledge by taking note of relevant legislative changes and attending training as appropriate.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and communication style with employees, and vendors in all circumstances.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
